Here's a pretty funny look at how drastically an image can change over the course of working on it. On this particular job I was tasked with creating a romance novel type cover that featured a regular joe and a beautiful woman. As you can see from the first pic I probably pushed it too far. Normally this would be ok but it started to muddy the concept quite a lot and I had to reign it in.

All in all I thought it turned out pretty well, it could have possibly been better if there had been time to do the job in oils on canvas, unfortunately advertising doesn't always allow for those kinds of indulgences.

Next to it is the final artwork as it ran in print. Art Direction by Charles Foley.
